Carriage diagram list – twelve wheel carriages

  1. This list summarises information extracted from two carriage diagram books produced by the NBR, one c. 1908 and the other c. 1921.
  2. Each diagram has been given a unique reference number and the NBR 1908, NBR 1921 and LNER diagram numbers, if allocated, are quoted.
  3. The diagrams are sorted by class. A build date is also given, if known.
  4. The abbreviation ‘NPCS’ means ‘Non-Passenger Carrying Stock’.

Lavatory Third. Conversion of diagram 92 (see ref. C0920) ex-MSJS lavatory composite to lavatory third. Running numbers listed are those first allocated when vehicles transferred to NBR. Not known if these numbers were changed on conversion to all third.

Composite Dining Carriage. 3 vehicles built and used on Edinburgh/Aberdeen and Edinburgh/Glasgow trains. Diagram76/73 were similar to 77/74 but were fitted with one lavatory. Dining accomodation was in compartments, not saloon. Later converted to composite saloon (see 1920 diagram 163).

Composite Dining Carriage. 3 vehicles built and used on Edinburgh/Aberdeen and Edinburgh/Glasgow trains. Diagram 74 (1920) were similar to 73 (1920) but were fitted with two lavatories. Dining accomodation was in compartments, not saloon. Later converted to composite saloon - see 1920 diagram 164 (ref C1640) for details and for list of running numbers.

Composite Dining Carriage. These two clerestory vehicles were built at Doncaster in 1905 and were originally ECJS no196 (162) and 353 (163) They were transferred to NBR in 1913.
